Blog 16: final reflections

There are many things that I will remember and probably will use it for my essays and short stories, like the monomyth and the different kind of terms that Joseph Campbell used. Actually, I liked his books, especially "the power of the myth". I never knew about him until this class, and I liked his theories. He talks about the quests, that most of the people take in order to go on in life. This class opens up opportunities to look further in a poem, story or even a novel. Students may take this class, since it makes it easier to write, since they don't have to give in papers and wait for them, everything is done online. And if you are a computer person, it would be easier for you. In this class, classmates comment on other student's blogs and leave comments in order to give them advise on how to write better in order to get a better grade. Also, if you like myths, like writing and also like talking about supernaturals, this class would be for you. For me, this class was the class that I really appreciate for going. It taught me everything about writing and looking further into a piece of writing that was given during class, or taken by myself. I also liked more about Joseph Campbell's monomyth and it impact on society.

Blog 15: Final draft

The Vampire's assistant and other tales from the Cirque Du Freak by Darren Shan

Darren Shan's real name is Darren O'Shaughnessy. Although he is Irish, he was born on July 2nd, 1972, in St.Thomas' Hospital, London, directly across the river from the Houses of Parliament in Westminster, which may explain his fascination with evil bloodsuckers! He started school at the early age of three. Although Shan always wanted to be a writer, it was only in his teenage years that he began writing in his spare time for fun. Shan was 17 when he finished his first novel.

Throughout this story, the reader can see what's going to happen by the chain of events that take place, and also by the terms that many movie writers and novel writers would use. Based on Joseph Campbell, many books use the hero's quest. The first step of hero's quest would be the call to adventure. In the Vampire's assistant, Darren Shan, who is a protagonist of the story, feels restless with the constraints of his life, and looks for a new world that he was not aware that a kind of the world existed. He and his friend, Steve, go to a freak show and there they meet Mr. Crespley with his "dangerous" spider. Steve began to spook himself out, but Darren would be like in a different world, experiencing something new. It would be like a call to a new life which Darren knew about.

Later after the show, Steve separates from the Darren and go to see Mr.Crespley. He knows that Mr. Crespley is a vampire and wants to become one as well. Mr. Crespley denies him, after tasting his blood and saying that it's evil. Another thing about that is that the quest is for Darren and not Steve. Steve storms out, outraged about not becoming a vampire. After Steve leaves, Darren, who was listening to the conversation, gets out from his hiding spot and looks for Steve. He later pumps into Mr.Crespley and Mr. Crespley gives him an offer to become a vampire. Darren accepts, and this way he steps into a different world and into a world of vampires.

In order to move forward in life as a half-vampire, Mr. Crespley tells Darren that he has to leave his house, his family, friends in order to continue his life. Darren refuses, because if he leaves his family, they would start looking for him. The refusal is often based on his fear of the unknown and comfort in the familiar. In this story, Darren is aided by Mr. Crespley, who becomes his mentor and guide throughout his vampire years. Darren becomes a half-vampire and an assistant in order to save his friend Steve's life. By doing so, he is drawn into the dark world of vampires. He begins to live it, but goes through al lot of hardships with his family, friends in order to save his darken secret. After been blooded by Mr. Crespley, he urges more and more for blood in order to keep himself alive and not to get crazy over it. But what he doesn't feel like doing is biting his own family, including his little sister. He avoids it but urges more and more. Finally, Mr. Crespley tells him to leave his family in order not to attack his family or friends. To free Darren of all previous bonds, including his family, Mr. Crespley helps his apprentice fake his own death by first drinking the potion, in order to make his organs and muscles numb and weakly moving, and then perfectly simulating an accidental but fatal fall. In Joseph Campbell's terms, this process would like the belly of the whale. Also, it's like death and rebirth into a new life.

Following Darren's human body's funeral, Mr.Crespley digs Darren up, and gets him out of there. Also, there is a connection between death and rebirth as well as before. When Darren became a vampire, he was given trials or tasks. On the first one, Darren refused to drink blood from a human, even when his mentor, Mr. Crespley tells him to. After a while Darren faces a consequence of becoming weaker in strengh. Second one is that he tries to live amongst humans, but decides to join Mr. Crepsley after nearly attacking his sister. And the 3rd task, is to destroy or kill Steve in order to prevent blood shed between vampires and vampeneze.

The vampires in the Saga are different from the standard vampires found in popular cultures. They are truly alive, can be killed by several means, like piercing of the heart and are not entirely evil. Vampires don't drink from the neck, but cut a vein of a victim, and drink blood from there. Then, they use their saliva to close the wound, so the person doesn't realize that he was bitten. Also, they don't have fangs like other vampires found in popular culture. They don't fly like other vampires, but only flint or run in fast speed.

What Joseph Campbell trying to tell us is that in everyday life there is a quest that should be done. For example, going from childhood or from beeing a teenager into becoming an adult. That's a challenge, since a person has to give up most of his/her things that he has as an adult and then move into his adult life. The same thing is in this story of the Vampire's assistant.

Darren Shan's real name is Darren O'Shaughnessy. Although he is Irish, he was born on July 2nd, 1972. He started school at early age of three. Although Shan always wanted to be a writer, it was only in his teenage years that he began writing in his spare time for fun. Shan was 17 when he finished his first novel.

The book contains many characters, like wolves, humans and of course, vampires. The vampires in the Saga are different from the standard vampires found in popular culture. They are truly alive, can be killed by several means, like piercing of the heart and are not entirely evil. Vampires don't drink from the neck, but cut a vein of a victim, and drink blood from there. Then, they use their saliva to close the wound, so the person doesn't realize that they were bitten. Also, they don't have fangs like other vampires, but fight with swords and knifes. They don't fly in this book, but only flint or run in fast speed. There are two different kinds of vampires: vampires and vampaneze. The vampires and vampeneze were at first, all vampires. Then, along came Desmond Tiny and places Vampire Princes to lead all other Vampires. A few vampires didn't like this and this, on top of the fact that they wanted to kill those they drunk from, led them to leave the vampires forever.

Many years after the split, there was peace between the vampires and vampeneze. This was stirred when Mr. Tiny came along again and gave the vampeneze the coffin of fire. This, when the correct person stepped in would show the true leader of the vampeneze. If they weren't leader, they perished. Although the vampeneze didn't like leadership, they wanted to win the upcoming war as stated by Mr. Tiny. Word spread around to the vampires telling them that the coffin had chosen a leader. This led to Mr. Tiny telling the vampires to hunt the lord down. He also told the vampeneze to protect the lord and made the prime protector Gannen Harst. He had to travel everywhere with the lord. Toward the climax of the war, Steve, the Vampeneze lord, ends up getting killed by Darren Shan and much later, the war was coming to a end as both side discussed a treaty in order to stop the bloodshed.

In this book, it starts out as Darren as the main character who lives in a world of humans. He lives the live that his parents planned out for him, but for him, it's boring and dull. He tries to find another way for new life. His friend, Steve, encourages Darren to go to a freak show after finding an advertisement on the road. Later, after the show, Steve goes to Mr. Crespley, and asks Mr. Crespley to turn him into a vampire. After tasting Steve's blood, Mr. Crespley disagrees and sends Steve away. Darren hears the entire conversation on the balcony and quickly leaves to the performance stage. Mr. Crespley finds him there wondering and gives him an offer: to become a vampire. Darren accepts the offer and begins his life as a half-vampire.

When Steve gets injured, Mr.Crespley tells Darren that in order for Steve to survive, he has to become his assistant. Steve lives but Darren is turned into a half-vampire and is pulled into the dark world of the vampires. He begins to live it, but goes through many hardships with his family, friends in order to save his darken secret. After been blooded by Mr. Crespley, he begins to urge for blood in order to keep himself alive. But what he doesn't feel like doing is biting his own family, including his little sister. He avoids it but he urges more and more for the liquid that keeps him physically capable. In order to avoid sudden urges, he decides to join Mr.Crespley after nearly attacking his sister. To free Darren of all previous bonds, including family, Mr. Crespley helps his apprentice fake his own death by first drinking the potion and then perfectly simulating an accidental, but fatal fall.

Following Darren's human body's funeral, Mr. Crepsley digs Darren up. By using the monomyth by Joseph Campbell, that would be like the belly of the whale or death and rebirth. Darren begins his new life as a vampire, ending his days as a human by encountering Steves who vows on his blood to track him and his mentor, Mr. Crespley, down to the ends of Earth as the world's best vampire Hunter there was. Later in time, Steve does go into the coffin of fire and becomes a lord of vampaneze. Even though he was Darren's best friend, Darren has to hunt him down and kill him because he's a vampaneze lord.

Although he is far stronger than any human, he is still finding it hard to adjust to his new life. His unchallenged strength causes him to be alone, as he can not make any human friends without breaking their arms. He got twice the strengh of a human, and he can run fast not as normally as humans do. Although he has these gifts, he doesn't want to be discovered in human world. He lives with his mentor, Mr. Crespley in the freak town where all people with abilities live.

Blog 12: prewriting

In this blog, I will be using the book "The Vampire Assistant". It starts out with a boy, named Darren Shan, who goes to school, has a normal life, but doesn't really likes it since it is boring and planned out. In the story, Darren looks for a new life which he can enjoy( call for the quest). He and his friend Steve go to a freak show, where Steve get spooked and Darren goes completely numb and watched it without hesitation. There was a performance of Mr. Crespley, who was really a vampire, but no one knew about it, except Steve. Mr. Cresley had a dangerous spider, which he controls with his telepatic powers and with the flute. After the show, Steve goes to Mr. Crespley and asks him to turn him into a vampire. Mr. Cresley refuses after tasting Steve's blood and tells him that it's bad. It also has a connection of hero's quest, since Darren is the one that should have the quest, and not Steve. After the show, Darren bumps with Mr. Crespley and he gives Darren a choice, to become a vampire. Darren agrees and tries to live a life of a vampire.

At first, he lives as he can, but not for a long time, since he almost bitten his sister in order to get some blood. Before this happened, Mr. Crespley tells Darren that he has to disappear from the human world in order to be a full vampire. Darren refuses that since he can't just leave or disappear immediately, because his parents would start looking for him. That would be the second part of the hero's quest. When Steve gets injured by the spider, Darren is given a choice: first one is that Steve dies and Darren loses a friend and another one is Steve lives and Darren leaves the world of humans. Steve's only hope for survival is if Darren makes a deal with Mr. Crespley to become his assistant. Steve lives, but Darren is turned into a half-vampire and is pulled into the dark world of the vampires.

The Belly of the Whale would be when Darren has to fake his own death by using a potion, given by Mr. Crespley. It's like death and rebirth into a new life. In order to free Darren of all previous bonds, including family, Mr. Crespley helps his apprentice fake his own death by perfectly simulating an accidental but fatal fall. Following Darren's human body's funeral, Mr. Crespley digs Darren up, which would be like death and rebirth. Darren begins his new life as a vampire, ending his days as a human by encountering Steve who vows on his blood to track him and his mentor, Mr.Crespley, down to the end of the Earth as the world's best vampire Hunter when he grows up. When Steve is like that, there is some connection between good and evil. Since Steve will become a vampire hunter and then a vampeneze, he and Darren will strike unto each other, like the collision of evil and good. In this story, there are two kind of vampires. Vampeneze would be a violent kind of vampire, who needs blood in order to survive, but this kind kills his victims. Vampires, in this story, do not. They cut a small incesion on their victims legs, or where the vein is in the leg and drink from there. Then, they close that up with their saliva, so the person would never realize they were bitten by a vampire when they wake up.

Although Darren is stronger than any human, he is still finding it hard to adjust to his new life. His unchallenging strength causes him to be alone as he can not make any human friends without breaking their arms. There are many challenges that are in his way. Those are the struggles that he had to overcome. In order to be a full vampire, Darren had to go through different tasks. First, is his super strengh, which gives him trouble. Second, he refuses to drink human blood even though his mentor, Mr. Crespley tells him to. Eventually, Darren learns the lesson after he grows weak. Then, Darren tries to live amongst humans, but eventually decides to join Mr. Crespley after nearly attacking his sister.
Third, he was given a task of destroying or killing Steve in order to prevent blood shed between vampires and vampeneze.

Blog #11: My chosen story

Picture taken from http://www.freebestmovies.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/Cirque-Du-Freak-The-Vampires-Assistant-movie-poster.jpg

I'm choosing the book called "The vampire's assistant" since I want to write about vampires. It's a story about a boy named Darren who really wants to be someone else in his life. Everything bores him to death in his life, he needs something new and exciting. So, he and his friend Steve went to a freak show, where they saw Mr. Crepsley, who is real vampire. After the show, Steve goes to him and asks him to turn him into a vampire. Mr. Crepsley tells Steve that his blood is evil and he cannot become a vampire. Steve leaves, feeling angry. Darren, who was hearing the entire conversation in a closet, gets out of it and steals Mr. Crepsley's spider and keeps her with him. Later on, Darren bumps into Mr. Crepsley and he gives Darren an offer to become a vampire. Darren eventually agrees and becomes a half-vampire. Next day, Darren goes to school with the spider and Steve gets accidently bitten by it and gets himself into a hospital. Darren asks Mr. Crepsley to save Steve. Mr C makes a bargain with Darren in order to save Steve, he has to become a leave this world and follow Mr. C as his assistant and half-vampire.
Darren agrees, since Steve is his best friend and he doesn't want to lose him. When Darren gets home from the hospital, he goes past his sister's room and suddenly feels the urge to drink someone's blood. He hardly stops in his tracks since it was hard for him to do that, and races to his room. Mr C is already there, waiting for him. He tells Darren that he has to forget that he has a family and he has to die in order to disappear. Darren takes it seriously and says goodbye to his family one more time. He doesn't tell them anything, goes back to his room and out the window to get some fresh air. Mr. C then gives Darren a potion that would symbolize death and then waits for the potion to work. It is just like the potion used in the William Shakespears' Romeo and Juliet, when she drinks the potion to be symbolically dead. When it did, Mr.C snaps Darren's neck in process. That wasn't harmful; instead, it made believe, and would look like real death. After the funeral and the burial, Mr.C digs Darren's grave and gets him out from there. Now everyone thinks that he's dead and no one would look for him. After Darren is out, Mr. C is attacked by a vampaneze and Darren gets almost kidnapped, but Mr. C rescues him in time. He then takes Darren in light speed to the camp where the people with special abilities stay.
Then, Mr. C tells Darren that since everyone knows that he's dead, and staying in this camp would be a safe place for him to stay and adapt. Also, in his new life, he can't live without drinking blood from another human but tries to avoid it and live without it. But that hurts him physically. Vampires, as told by Mr. C, need that liquid in order to live on; without it, a vampire will grow weak and wouldn't be able to defend himself when needed to. Later on, Darren finds out that Steve is the vampeneze, a violent type of a vampire.

Blog 10: Reflections

I think that we saw those movies for a purpose. One of them is to see more around us, to make a bigger circle. of our understanding of different literary terms. Every movie has it's own moral, symbols, and a lesson to be learned. What I learned from it is that in everyone's life, there is a quest to be done, no matter how the person see it. There is all of subconscious surrounding us, and we have to make choices in our lifes, correct ones or not. Joseph Campbell once said "learn to defeat the dragon in you". That quote really sticked to me since we all have those dragons, or egos inside of us. It's very hard to defeat that and learn to control it within you or anyone. I kind of liked to hear different kinds of myths. I don't have to believe in them; I just have to look inside of them and feel the logic and what is it trying to tell us, people of the modern world.

Blog 9: Hero's quest and film

picture got from http://www.imdb.com/media/rm3252194560/tt0363771
Chronicles of Narnia starts with 4 children, Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter which lived during the London Bombardment in WW2. They were send to their uncle's mansion by their mother, in which they stayed. While they were playing hide and seek, Lucy finds an old wardrobe, which was the gateway to the secret and supernatural world, which was called Narnia, the world of different magical and mystical creatures. When she goes in into that world, she meets Mr. Tumnes, who was a faun. He takes her to his home and then, tries to give her in to the evil queen who ruled Narnia with her snow and coldness for a long time. He tries to do that since Lucy was human and was part of a prophecy. There are many symbols throughout this film. First, Aslan the lion, is a symbol of power of good and the Queen Jadis, the witch, who represents the forces of evil. www.jonathanselby.com/Narnia.html.
Due to Campbell's "The power of the myth" the 4 children go to this magical world of Narnia and there they meet different supernatural beings, including the beevers, the faun, the lion and of course the witch. There is a clash of evil and good between the children. They have to choose sides, on which side they have to be on. For example, in the movie, Edmund wants to get revenge on his older brother Peter , since Peter is being a little bossy. He goes to the witch, who is really the person who wants to kill all of the children so her reign of power never ends. Since Edmund doesn't know that, he is accidently trapped within her grasp. The others, knowing that Edmund is in danger, go across the frozen river and went into Aslan's camp, where Aslan lived with the rest of his people, or other mythical creatures to get help. It's almost like the threshold, or the belly of the whale.
Since Peter and his sisters were humans, they were the protectors of Narnia from the witch Jadis and were supposed to be ones to save Narnia from her reign. But the witch wants them dead, and would do anything to get that. During the war, Edmund get's injured by the witch, by getting out of her command. She stabbes him, going after Peter. She would've killed him, but Aslan, who rose from the dead(being killed innocent)kills her. There is a connection of Christ, when he dies on the cross for all of our sins, defeats the devil and rise from the dead. After she is killed, Peter rushes to Edmund, who is dying quickly. Lucy uses her potion to restore him to life, which happens. When the war is over, Peter and his siblings grow up, becoming kings and queens of Narnia, and as time changes in Narnia, so do they. One time, they were riding through a forest, and Lucy saw a lamp post, which she saw long time ago. She rushed to the place where is the entry to the human world, and went back to the human world with her brothers and sister. When they did that, they returned to the same time when they left the human world for Narnia, nothing changed, not even the time. Based on the Heroes Quest by Campbell, Lucy and her siblings first depart for the mystical world. Then, they are given a test, from saving Edmund from the witch and saving the entire Narnia from her grip.

Blood(line 22)
Blood is a substance which makes life possible. Blood was believed to provide promise of immortality. The downside, however, os that the vampire must comsume blood in order to survive. Blog 6: rough draft of essay 3

Rough draft

Wingbeat from a High Balcony
A tale or a dream
His own other life seemed
As he slunk through the shadows of might
Barely remembered
That fateful November,
When dark swallowed all of the light
The bite.
The pain speading through him,
The poisonous fangs dripping red.
As twilight consumed him,
he looked at what doomed him,
And these are the words that it said:

Creature of night,
Take heart,
Take flight.
You're free now to do what you will.
No morals, no life,
To live and in strife,
Your pleasure will come from the kill.

As he had been fated,
He gorged and he sated
His thirst on the blood of the living
warm, dark and red,
unaware of the curse they were giving.
Unliving.
He longed from the killing,
And in each waking moment it grew.
The feeling of spite
For all that was right
As his soul frosted over anew.

So now in the dark
He waits for the spark
Of a life that is ripe for the taking.
He longs from the day
And he can't get away
from a trance that's not sleeping or walking
Lonely,
He wonders if only
The kiss of the sun would bring peace
And so, come the morning
Despite instrict's warning,
He'll lie down and hope for release.

This poem was written by a young writer named Maeve 104. Since I don't know his/her true identity, I can't say anything about him/her. This poem has a rhyme, and in the form of ABA.
This poem talks about a vampire in the night, looking for his next victim. According to the wikipedia, "The vampire is a monster that has both thrilled and terrified people for hundreds of years, from sophisticated Parisian theatre-goers to quaking eastern European peasants. Many elaborate rituals were used to identify a vampire. Corpses though to be vampires were generally described as having a healthier appearance than expected, plump and showing little or no signs of decomposition. When graves opened, some villigers would see these bodies with having fresh blood from a victim all over it's face."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/vampires.

There are many symbolisms around this poem. One of the symbols that he used was red. Red can be used to determine love, lust and also blood.(http://en.wikipedia.org./wiki/Red) Well, blood is used in this poem quite often. For a vampire, blood gives him/her life and also increases their chances of being alive and increases their powers. According to an online source, "the vampire's communion is an inversion of the Christian's one. Rather than drinking Christ's immortal blood, the vampire drinks the blood of the mortal. Rather enjoying his eternal life in the hereafter, he spends it on earth". http://vampires.monstrous.com/blood.htm. Symbolism is when the writer uses symbols or terms that would stand for something else. For example, in this poem, the writer uses the symbol bat for vampire. He writes that since bats symbolize death and rebirth. Sometimes, they are known as the "Guardian of the night". http://symbolism.wikia.com/wiki/Bat.

The tone is the what the writer is trying to show through emotions or feelings. This poem contains feelings of a vampire, a creature that is always hunted by society. He's not free; he is always hunted by the people who hate or fear him.
The vampire is commonly considered to be one who exists in the state of "living, death", literally a re-animated corpse. Some traditions have it that a vampire is a corpse inhabited by an alien demon, others, that it is a corpse in the possession of a sorceror as a "familiar", and still others, by far the majority, which describe the vampire as a body possessed by the soul it had in life. Whatever the means of animation, the vampire is one who once lived, diead a corporeal death, and then rose from the grave to walk the earth and haunts the living. He inhabits the grave of his burial during the day and roams at night. The purpose of his wandering is the attainment of that which will maintain his "living-death" state. He seeks blood, the life-fluid of the living, to rgain his own vitality. Having drunk blood of a living being, the vampire, previously a freshless and bloodless ghastly figure gains the corporeal qualities of human life and health: extreme strength, the power of speech, the ability to take in food and to beget children. The vampire is one who once lived, died a corporeal death and then rose from the grave to walk the earth and haunts the living. He inhabits the grave of his burial during the day and roams at night. (http://kekrops.tripod.com/Mythology_Vampire.html).

A vampire is a creature not entirely understood by the society and people of not being bitten by a pure blood vampire do not really understand them and see them as monsters. A vampire is described as a creature of the night, since vampires come out only during the night and sleep during the day. The writer writes about it in the last stanza "the kiss of the sun would bring peace, and so, come the morning. Despite instinct's warning, He'll lie down and hope for a release." What that means is that during the day, vampires are afraid of the sun and will burn if they are outside. That's why they are in their coffins during the day. That's why due to the sun's rays, they only come out during the night. Same thing with the bat. A vampire is a creature that looks into the night and sometimes cannot be spotted quickly by a human eye. He has enhanced senses, which he uses to stalk his prey. They are not only intelligent and smart, but also fast and strong. He uses his fangs as a weapon to suck blood from his victims and sometimes make them immortal as he/she is. Sometimes people would seemed to realize that vampires are around them, but not for long; people would see them, but seconds later, they will disappear, without being seen or spotted by the mortal public. They will turn into bats and fly out of sight, inot the night. During the day, people wouldn't actually be able to see them since they might be recharging from the night before. They would be in their coffins, sleeping, like the dead would be until they're reborn again. Vampires were hunted for many generations. That's why most of them hide beyond the reach of humans, which would be abandoned churches, empty cemeteries, rooftops and other places where they can be safe. This poem also talks about someone being bitten by a vampire and how it felt. They experienced it as cold, fearing and unnatural. Vampires have no life since they are immortal.

Blog# 5: Essay 3 Preview

What I understand is that the essay needs to have the biography of the author and to be a little more detailed.

What I'm kind of confused about is which poem to use, a new one or old one. If the old one, there is a problem since there is nothing else to go deeper in. I might have to choose a different poem, or change the subject.

For me, MLA format is familiar, but it is confusing.

Blog #4: Reflections

So far, I kind of liked the class. I learned more about the Internet and more about poetry literature. Also, I learned more about the literary terms, like symbolism and tone. Many things I learned about copyright, that you have to cite everything that you use in a essay. That I most of the time didn't know about. Also, I made friends in the class. In the class, we discuss many things, and go deep into a poem.

I chosed a poem that considerly gives a identity of what vampires really are. It was written by Maeve104, who is no different than me or you. The name of the poem is "Wingbeats from the high balcony." This poem is mostly about vampires as endangered species, and also how they try to blend with the people, so they wouldn't get caught. I chosed this poem because I like vampires and would like to meet one if there was a chance. A vampire is a person who hides from people, so no one knows that they are vampires. They are also secretive since they are wanted for experiments in science and medicine.(www.vampirewebsite.net/index.html). In this poem, he is also described as a creature of the night, since vampires come out only during the night and sleep during the day. Same thing with the bat. He uses his fangs as a weapon to suck blood from his victims and sometimes make them immortal as he/she is.
A vampire is a creature that looks into the night and sometimes cannot be spotted quickly by a human eye. He has enhanced senses, which he uses to stalk his prey. They are not only smart and intelligent, but also fast and strong. They have double of what is called human speed. People would seemed to realize that vampires are around them, but not for long; people would see them and seconds later, they will disappear, without being seen or spotted. They will turn into bats and fly out of sight, into the night. During the day, you actually will not being to see them since they will be recharging from the night before. They would be in their coffins, sleeping, like the dead would be until they're reborn again.
People would never think of vampires as people, actually, they would be creatures that were not understood by the society. That's why most of them hide beyond reaches of humans, which are abandoned churches, empty cemeteries, rooftops and other places where they can be safe. But, there are vampires in the world who are just humans, who consider themselves as vampires who feed off human blood for nutrients. This poem also talks about a man or a woman getting bitten by a vampire and what they felt while being bitten. They experience it as cold, fearing and something strange. Vampires have no life since they are immortal, and they can be doing everything they want in their life. They fly, bite by using their fangs, and making the other people into the wings of night. Vampires can make people(normal humans) forget about what has happen to them, their own memories of a specific date.
The tone is the what the writer is trying to show through emotions or feelings. This poem contains feelings of a vampire, a creature that is always hunted by society. He is not free; he is always hunted by people who hate or fear him.
Symbolism is when the writer uses symbols or terms that would stand for something else. For example, in the poem, the writer uses the symbol bat for vampire. He does that since the vampires move freely throughout the world and couldn't be stopped. Also, a bat flies solo, just like a vampire. The writer uses the fangs, which would symbolize for eternal life. Since vampires drink blood for their victims, blood gives them more life, and also more power. Blood is like a power to them.
In the conclusion, this poem tells us many things. One thing is that vampires were not understood for hundreds of years, and were thought as monsters or dangerous creatures which had to be exterminated or killed off. Another thing is that the writer uses is a good comparason of a bat and vampires. He did that since vampires and bats move throughout this world and freely during the night. No one tells them what to do and how to live their lifes.

Blog #2: Poem

I will be using Vampires as my topic since I love vampires and sometimes wish to be one(just kidding!!). I googled poems about vampires and found this website: http://www.elftown.com/_Vampire%20poetry . I used the picture from

I chosed the poem "Wingbeats from a High Balcony" because it is represents a vampire as a bat in the night. He searches for a victim to be bitten in the night and make him feel stronger.
He is also described in this poem as a creature of the night, since vampires come out only during the night and sleep during the day. Same thing with the bat. He uses his fangs as a weapon to suck blood from his victims and sometimes make them immortal as he is. He makes them as he is, the creature of the night. He will be searching for his bride, whoever it might be. A vampire is a creature that looks into the night and sometimes cannot be spotted quickly by a human eye. He can smell human flesh from a mile away and if he is hungry, he will be stalking you. Vampires are not also smart and intelligent, they are also fast and strong. They are double of what is called human speed.
People would seemed to realize vampires that they are around them, but not for long; people would see them and seconds later, they will disappear, without being seen or spotted. They will turn into bats and fly into the night. During the day, you actually can't see them since they will be recharging from the night before. They will be in their coffins, sleeping, like the dead would be until they're reborn again. People would never think of vampires as people; actually, they would be a creatures that are not understood by the society. That's why most of them hide beyond reaches of humans, which are abandoned churches, empty cemeteries, rooftops and other places where they can be safe.
The poem also talks about a man or a woman getting bitten by a vampire and what they felt while being bitten. They experience it as cold, fearing and something strange. Vampires have no life since they are immortal, and they can be doing everything they want in their life. Life for them is everything. They fly, bite by using their fangs, and make the other people into the wings of night. Vampires can also make people forget about what has happen to them, their own memories of a specific date and also changing their identity.

Blog 1: About me

My name is Maria and I came from Kiev, Ukraine with my parents. I started school here and for me it was kind of hard at first. Then, I got it. Now I live with my parents and my 7 year old brother. My dream is to become a doctor, so that I could make this world a better place to live in, so that people wouldn't have health problems in their lives. Most of all, I want to become a ER doctor, and help people that are in need of help. I would be graduating from LaGuardia Community College with a Radiology Tech. Degree and continuing up the medical field. My parents want me to become a teacher, but what I can't stand is when people don't pay any attention and that kind of pisses me off.
